November 1 & 2, 2016- SC-Isle of Palm in Charleston

November 1, 2016
It was a lazy morning.  We decided to take our time this morning and not rush.  At Osprey marina this morning, we noticed goat's eating plants around the marina.

Left around 8:50am. Another gorgeous day.

Driving thru this stretch reminds us of the Everglades. The cypress trees are covered with Spanish moss.  Breath taking and relaxing. It is a National Wildlife preserve although we haven't seen much wildlife.  They must be south already.

10:30am- Went by Wacca Wache Marina at mile 383.
This boat was anchored across from the marina,
Gorgeous areas

Steve stretching out.

11:50am- Going by the Heritage Plantation Marian at mile 394.

Butler Island , near mile 396, is apparently a natural area with nesting eagle families.  That would have been quite a site to see.
Sucked boat

1:00pm- Going under the Lafayette Highway Bridge at mile 402.  This is how close our mast is to the bridge.  Good thing they are all 65 ft high.
This is a short distance now to Georgetown.  We are planning on finding an anchorage there and hopefully do some sightseeing.

History for those interested about Georgetown.
In 1526, Spanish explorer Lucas Vasquez de Ayllon was the first European to land here followed by English and French settlements in mid 1600's. Nomadic Native Americans from tribes like the Wee Nee, Pee Dee, Waccamaw, Winyah and Santee inhabited the area. Georgetown is South Carolina's third oldest city and was founded in 1729 and became an official port of entry in 1732.
1:00pm- we are on an anchorage at Georgetown.  We covered 27.89 miles today.

4:00pm-  We put the dinghy down and we went for a walk along Georgetown Boardwalk .  We went in a few stores and then sat outside at a bar patio called Big Tuna.  Talked to some locals about the incredible flood they had during the hurricane.
5:30pm- We came back to the boat and Steve barbecued porc chops. We watched the sunset as we ate.
After dinner, Steve watched the baseball game while I did some crafts.

 November 2, 2016
Left our anchorage at Georgetown at 7:45am.  It is amazing how warm it is already.  Steve said the water temperature is 66degrees.    Last night we actually had to kill mosquitoes in our boat.  Who would of thought.  Now we will make sure to keep our screens on.  We are going South!

9:00am- Going by the Estherville -Minim Creek Pontoon Bridge at mile 411,  it is opened most of the time so we didn't have to wait.
9:45pm- As we are going through what they call South Carolina low lands, we can hear a distress call from someone who lost battery power on the ocean.  Sounds like the Coast Guard has it in control thru a boat who is relay in the information.  As we were motoring along, I noticed a Dolphin near our boat.  I get so excited.

10:45am- Steve and I spotted several alligators in this area.
It is sure nice to wear shorts again.
Charleston Bound is a long stretch along a straight dredged cut with vast marshlands.

1:30pm- We managed to get our sail up for awhile.
4:00pm- we arrived in Isle of Palm in Charleston.  We would have like to stay downtown Charleston  however we would have never made the bridge.  It closes at 4pm.  We were tired anyways.
We covered 50.87 miles today.
