November 7, 2016- Altamaha River to Fernandino Beach, Fl

6:45am-  We had an early start this morning. As we were leaving the Altamaha River anchorage and admiring the sunrise, a dolphin said good morning to us by jumping beside our boat. What a great way to start the morning.
We left 2 other sailboats behind getting ready for their departure.

8:30- Covering the Mackey River between mile 664 to Mile 675  we arrived at the FJ Torras Causeway bridge  at mile 674.5.

To the left of us as we went under the bridge is St Simon Island, Ga., apparently, according to Momey Magazine, it was named one of the best places to retire. It is a draw for history buffs, golf and tennis players, nature lovers and of course, boater's. (Mile 680)
To the right of us about 200 ft, I noticed a sucker boat on the St. Simon Sound.
To our right, we can see Brunswick and the Sidney Lanier Bridge.  Brunswick is known as the "Gateway to the Golden Isles'" the "Land of Five Flags, and the birth place  of the original Brunswick stew.

9:00am- at mile 684 we are going by Jeckyll  Island.  As we entered the shallow channel, there was a jetty on our right which extended from the shore all the way out to flashing red day beacon "4".  (Steve educated me on what a jetty was)
9:45am- We decided to make it today to Fernandino Beach, Fla.  I called a few marinas ahead(getting smarter) but some of them are completely closed due to the hurricane.  We are waiting for a call for availability.

. 10:30am-  we just went thru half an hour of rough seas on the Jekyll Sound heading towards Cumberland River from mile 690 to mile 700 into the Cumberland Sound.
We are now hearing the Coast Guard on the VHF radio talking to a boater about a boat which over turned and people are in the water. Mounds like they went over by the entrance of the Jekyll Sound.  Who knows...maybe they saw us proceed and figured they would follow.  Steve wondered why there were so many power boat anchored at the entrance of the Sound.
10:45am- I thought I was seeing things when I saw 3 wild horses on a beach.  You never know what will appear.
12:00pm-In the Cumberland Sound, there could be Activity at the Navy's Kings Bay Submarine Base, home to six Trident-class submarines.  They frequently change the navigational aids between mile 708 - 711. We did not see any submarine but did see Homeland security guarding the place.
They had a huge repair dock.

We saw more horses on the Cumberland National Seashore .  Most of the island must remain in its primitive state.  It is so nice to see wild horses. According to my cousin who visited this area with their motor home, when the owner died, the agreement was they would leave the horses on the island.
1:15pm-We are headed to St Mary's River Inlet at mile 714 which marks the boundary between Georgia and Florida.
1:30pm-  From a distance we see the Fort Cumberland Clinch .

We also went by a wind surfer.  He was flying.

So much damage as we enter Florida at Fernandino beach.
2:30pm- Arrived at Amelia Island Yacht Club at Mile 721 for the night.

We won't be able to leave until 11:00am tomorrow from this marina due to the tides.  That is good because we can relax, take a llllllong shower and do laundry.
