7:45am- Left Marineland Marina in St. Augustine
Steve always makes sure to tie up the lines properly as we leave the port.
Lots of Spanish moss hanging from the trees. Such a beautiful area when we left the marina.
There is also a lots of new house development along with a couple of marinas.
8:45an We start the ICW mile 809 to mile 818 stretch under the Flagler Beach Bridge. It is a very busy bridge with the commercial traffic. We had to idle a bit until
Before the bridge we passed a marina which had a huge Private Dock. Here we go again....lookout for crab pots.
At mile 816, we had to request the LB Knox Bridge to open. The ICW enters the headwaters of the Halifax River here which gradually widens to Daytona Beach.
10:15am- on most parts of the way, big motor boats will come behind you to pass and will let you know via radio so you can slow down to let them go. There are some ¥¥£€£ holes that do not warn you, pass you and create such a wake. When we approached the LB Knox bridge at mile 816, they made this particular €>€>£ hole wait for us and another boat before opening. Kharma perhaps?
To oak State Park, along the riverbanks of the Tomoka River, was once home to the Timucua Indians. Apparently today, you can walk beneath the same ancient oaks that shaded their huts nearly 400 yrs ago. In the distance, can see an old hut.
As we approach the Ormand Beach bridge at mile 825, I read at Ormand Beach, the former John D Rockefeller had his summer house here. It is now a museum exhibit and is owned and maintained by the city.
Another tidbit is....late in November, Ormand beach hosts an antique car rally, featuring a gaslight parade of old cars. It commemorates the birth of auto racing, which began here on the broad, smooth beach.
11:45am- Arrived at Daytona Beach at mile 830 and had to go through a series of bridges. Daytona Beach is known for their 23 miles of beach.
The Memorial Bascule Bridge is now permenantly opened since they are tearing it down,
They replaced it with the International Blvd Speedway Bridge .Love the paintings on the pillar of the new bridge at mile 830.6.
We went by a pelican hangout.
1:00pm-At mile 840 at Ponce de Leon Inlet, you really have to pay attention to the channel marks due shoals.
2:00- Our last bridge before arriving to New Myrna Beach City Marina at mile 846.5. We plan to stay here for 2 nights.
Walk around town. Steve found a barber and got his hair cut and he managed to get himself a pair of sandals which actually fit him.
