January 5, 2017- Bahamas-Green Turtle Cay

January 5, 2017
Last night we got a bad storm with 20-25 knots of wind with heavy rain.  It was sure welcomed since it washed all the salt water off the boat.
7:00am- Woke up to a gorgeous morning with a clean boat.
Had eggs, tomatoes and avocado this morning.  Last night we realized our refrigeration didn't work.  Good thing we bought a Yeti and had ice made in the freezer.  That will hold us until we get to Green  Turtle Cay.  Steve figures it probably lost its charge while the boat was bouncing around yesterday.  Glad it wasn't the freezer that broke since we would have lost all the meat we have frozen.
9:00am-  GaYa and Primera Vista raised our anchors and set sail for Green Turtle Cay.

10:30am- While motoring, we hit something in the water.  Steve decided to turn around to see what it was,  we were afraid we hit a manatee but it was pieces of a plastic barrel.

As we were motoring, I was at the bow looking down and the water was crystal clear.  I didn't see any fish however would see these huge star fish.  One observation Steve made, was there were no palm trees on the islands.

Green Turtle Cay is a small island with a population of about 450 but it offers variety with several different anchorages and excellent restaurants, hotel, marine services and shopping facilities according to Abaco Guide book.

1:00pm- Along the great Abaco Island,  we noticed and approached  a huge color change in the water.  It was turquoise.  SO beautiful.

Still following Primera Vista who have been here many times and have given us great tips.

2:30pm- We arrived at  Green Turtle Cay in the Bahamas and we are on a mooring .  We cleared Customs and are now officially able to stay here for 3 months for a fee of $300.  That even included a fishing license.  It was amazing the amount of paperwork you had to fill in.  They wanted detailed information of boat registration and in fact, they wanted a copy of it. We told them we wanted a 6 months permit however they only give them 3 months at a time.  Once the 3 months is over, you have to go back and get it renewed at no extra cost.
When we first walked into the office, the Officer was processing another couple.  We started talking and laughing with Terry and John who knew someone waiting in line.  The lady Officer, who was busy processing someone, reminded us that this was an official government office and basically, tone it down.  The funny thing was an evangelist was playing on the TV in the background quite loud the whole time we were waiting in line and being processed.  We felt like we were being saved.

We went for a drink and a bite to eat right across from our boat with John and Terry.   Of course we had to take our dinghy since that is now our vehicle.
We had to try their local drink and special Friskie Turtle drink

Got back to the boat around 7pm.
