January 2, - 3, 2017 Going out to sea

January 2, 2017
11:30pm- It was a little tricky getting out of the dock because of the high winds.  One of the employees came to help out.
We went to the fuel dock and someone accidentally pushed the emergency button which caused the fuel to drain out of the tanks.  After waiting 45 minutes, we had to go to Sailfish marina for fuel.  We docked pretty good considering the winds.  I could see out the ocean as we were passing the inlet and it sure looked rough.
Once we fueled up, we will anchor outside the inlet ready for tomorrow's departure.

5:00am- Woke up to assess the seas.  Looks like it will be a go.  We called John ( who will be crossing in their boat with us) and decided to wait until 6am to leave.
At this point, I am not sure if I will be getting wifi, so stay tune until further communications.

6:15am- The anchor is going up and off we go.
Going out to sea.

As we were going out of the inlet, working against the tides, a cruise ship was coming in.

When we reached the Gulfstream, it had waves of 5 to 7 ft.  It was fine at first, however it progressively got worse and I took a pill to ensure I don't get sick.  When I find a comfort zone, I don't move.  It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be considering all the wind we had before leaving.
Steve managed to eat a sandwich which I thankfully prepared before our departure.  He never seems to get sick. After a while, I went down below to lay down for a couple of hours. Lack of sleep from the night before.mThings seemed more calmer when I came back up on deck.
It was really strange because you could see on the depth sounder how we were in 2000 ft of water and as we progress to the banks, the depth went to 12 ft. This is a sample of what we were looking at on the depth sounder.

We took down the American courtesy flag and raised up the Bahamian one once we reached the Bahamas.

3:30pm- seeing that things really calmed down and I was at the helm, Steve decided to try out his new fishing rod.  After 20 minutes, he was so excited when he brought in a Baracuda weighing approximately 20pds.  I managed to take a photo of his big teeth before releasing him,

6:00pm-We reached our anchorage at Mangrove Cay.  We will stay here for the night and head our early in the morning heading to Green Turtle where we will report to Customs.
What a gorgeous night.  We anchored along side Primera Vista (John and Terry).

Steve barbecues chicken and we toasted to the arrival in the Bahamas.

We covered 80 miles today.
