September 21- 23,2016 New York

September 21, 2016
Steve and I decided to sleep in this morning seeing that we were not motoring anywhere.  Of course, sleeping in to me was 6:45am seeing that I was determined to go do some flexibility Yoga.
9:30am- Steve (harbor master) from Croton on the Hudson, drove us to the train station so we can go into NYC.

I wanted to visit Ground Zero Museum seeing that we have not been there for at least 5 years.  We sure could of used my daughter Natalie, who knows NY inside out, to help us get around but Steve  managed  OK.

The museum was spectacular and well done.  What a way to honor all those who lost their lives that day.  I will post photos on my Facebook.

We walked to West Marine because we realized we now needed charts  to navigate thru NY and New Jersey Shore.
Of course we couldn't go without having a NY piece of  pizza.

We then walked to 42nd and Broadway to the Time Square.

We jumped back on the Metro train and got back to our boat by 5:00pm.  Now we get ready for our sailing adventure into NYC starting tomorrow morning.

6:45pm- Just watching the sunset while relaxing.

7:30pm- Met a couple Allan and Bev from Cornwall who came over for drinks.
Hopefully we will meet up with them again.
Better get to bed early since we will be continuing on to our journey.

September 22/16
6:45am- Leaving Croton on the Hudson.  A little chilly out but the sun is coming out. Good thing I am writing this blog daily otherwise I would never know what date is was or where we've been.  Fellow boater's come to us and ask us where did we stay and we tell them to read the blog because we can't remember.  It is funny how you just keep looking forward and not look back. The adventure is the unknown and what you will see and happen on a daily basis.

Arrived in New York around 10:00am

What an exciting time.  So much going on between ferries crossing, airplanes and helicopters flying.  So much traffic but it added to the excitement. It was exactly as I imagine seeing the Statue of Liberty from our boat.  I feel like I've know her for years and is getting reacquainted
We anchored behind the Statue and it was the perfect calm place.  I even kayaked near the Statue.  What a sight. Perfect evening.  We even saw fireworks when it got dark.

Who can say that they kayak and looked at the Statue of Liberty at the same time.

6:15am-Left NYC for Atlantic city

Tried to take my last photos of the statue as we motored away.  She was still lit up.
Another  gorgeous  morning.
As we were pulling out the anchor, the Police Homeland security pulled up right beside us.  They came very close but did not talk to us.

7:45am- we are sailing in the ocean with GaYa.  The GaYa is no longer a virgin.  She has been introduced to salt water.

You know when you are going towards the ocean when a big freighter honks his horn at you to let you know he is coming.
Also came up to a dredger.

7:10am- Finally got a sail up as we can see Coney Island to our left to stabilize the boat. We couldn't win.  The wind was always at our nose.
The ocean today is very rolley polley. I have my own language of describing it. 3-5 foot swells. Good thing I brought my wrist band and popped Zofran to prevent seasickness.  I even managed to make Steve a sandwich.  I keep my diet to crackers and water.  I always remember an old sail man telling me to keep your diet blan during rough seas.

It is cool to be motor sailing along the Jersey shores.  It looks like a really nice sandy beach and that you can drive on it.
2:00pm - Just going by Island Beach Lighthouse.

7:30pm-  Steve and I hit our record today.  We motored sail 12.5 hrs. today.  Arrived in Atlanta City while the sun was setting.

We didn't have much choice but to stay an expensive marina.  The Golden Nugget marina.  They had a live band playing outside on the patio.  Steve and I were so tired that we just ate at the restaurant and went for a shower.  Poor Steve fell asleep on the couch when we returned.
