September 16,2016 Hop O Nose

September 16, 2016 Hop O Nose
The plan was to leave at 7am this morning  in order to beat the tide however fog has closed in.  Now we have to wait for it to burn off  a bit.
8:00- Left Waterford heading to Hop O Nose.  This is where our mast will be put on.
Went thru our lock # 1 which is the last lock before entering the Hudson River.
The lock was a little more challenging than all the others.  It is a government owned lock.  They do not provide lines to hold on to so you have to wrap a line from your boat unto a pipe along the wall.  Steve held on to the line while I made sure to push off the stern (back expand) against the wall.  There were 3 other Canadian boats.  One from Toronto, one from Bronte and one from Montreal. All adventurous souls.  Everyone is going to Hop O Nose to get their mast put up.
While I noticed a single feather on our boat, Steve pointed out a bald eagle looking down art us.  How amazing is that?
Now we will experience what is it like to motor and sail through the ebb and flow of tides.
9:15am- we are now getting 3/4 knots push from the current however Steve said that will change.  This is why most people wanted to leave early in order to avoid, as much as possible, motoring thru currents flowing against you.

It was a little cool this morning.  Steve had his Tetley tea while I had my horsetail tea (good for the bones).  Cheers to Don and Kim who gave us these wonderful mugs.  Good for making our individual coffees or tea.

3:00pm- Arrived in Hop O Nose.  We can get our mast down until Sunday so we will be get our mast ready in the meantime.
Caught up to Laurie and Al from Fifty Point  They already have their mast up.

6:00pm- Had dinner at Hop O Nose Marina Restaurant with Chuck and Margi

Tomorrow we have to get our mast ready for Sunday.
