YEAH....Mast is up!
The big day has come. Our mast is back up. It was very interesting to see how they maneuver the mast and raise it up to place it on the boat.
1. They place the mast on a travel lift
We spent all afternoon tuning the rig and washed the boat. GaYa is now all clean and ready for the ocean. We hope to continue our journey tomorrow however it always depends on the weather.
We just found out that 'Hop O Nose' means Love of water in Indian. There used to be a tribe that lived in this area. Also, there is a rock which sticks out coming into the marina and it looks like a nose.
September 19, 20161. They place the mast on a travel lift
2. Then they lower and place the mast on a dock
3. They move the dock in front of the crane in the area where it will be lifted. They lift it up.
4. They have us pull up beside the dock.
5. And they carefully swing it onto our boat.

FYI

You have to check the tide tables daily because they change. When the tide is behind us, we make up speed and when the tide is against us we lose speed. We will be following V-Twin.
As we were motoring along, there was a lot of debris in the Hudson River. A blue herring took advantage of it but didn't like it when we got closer.
It is drizzling but at least it is warm.
There are so many beautiful houses along the Hudson. It reminds me of the St. Laurence. My cousin France lives on the St. Lawrence and I remember thinking how nice it would be to sail down in the river and looking up. Guess this is how it would be. Maybe one day we will sail in the St Lawrence but for now it is the Hudson.
9:45am- our intention was to stop and spend a night at Kingston however since it was still early we decided to continue on. Here is a photo of the Kingston Lighthouse.
10:15am- Went by the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse. Our aim is to stay at Shadows Marina at Poughkeepsie, NY.
Looks like a castle across from the Norrie Yatch Basin while I was looking out at the helm.
10:45- Going by Poughkeepsie Yacht Club. We are going at a speed 6.2 knots average with current.
We can't believe the size of some of the houses along this strip of the Hudson. It will be so beautiful when the leaves change in a couple of weeks.
Covered 26.28 miles today.
I decided to go for a bike ride downtown to check it out while Steve read. I needed some exercise. Didn't get too far since the peddle on the bike broke. Figures, I took Steve's bike only because I didn't want to bother getting my bike off which was on the other side of the boat. Steve said he will try to get a peddle perhaps in NY city.
Shadows is a beautiful little marina however they had portable showers with cool water. At least it was clean.
Spaghetti and sausage for supper tonight!
